Tehelka is back! Noticed a copy lying in a bookstore and picked it up. Most of the articles have a sensationalist spin - from why Shoaib Akhtar was chucking the ball during the India-Pakistan match; to where the Finance Minister and the RBI are ignoring scams under their noses. Very Mumbai Mid Day feel to it. They have an online version with articles in a similar vein, but that requires subscription...

For those that need their memories jogged - Tehelka's team of cowboy journalists were the centre of media frenzy back in 2001 thanks to their sting - Operation WestEnd that taped prominent politicians "accepting bribes" during an "arms deal". Lots of noise, but it ended up changing little and hurt few apart from the Tehelka team and their backers.

Played Literati, Yahoo's variant of Scrabble with a friend who survived the trauma of being trumped at the English paper in high school, to now play an almost-annual game of Literati with me. Lost 209-204 after leading through most of the game. Glory is sometimes so fleeting...

Congratulations N, YPS would be proud of you !

Having a pen to use on your screen begs to find purpose to use it... Since about the only use for a pen I've had in the last few years is filling up feedback forms at coffee shops and signing credit card slips - my handwriting (bad has it was) has deteriorated beyond something that most doctors would be proud of, decades into their practice. I've been experimenting with drawing instead - and while I'm no better at that than handwriting - I did find a website or two that helped me sketch something vaguely recognisable!

Watched Stuck on You. If you haven't watched it, you have not missed much. Am also reading Company - which skillfully blends in fact and fiction to give an account of the CIA between 1950 and 1995; this book is easier to recommend, despite the 900ish pages it runs into!

Got myself a new toy at work - switched from my laptop to a Tablet PC that draws a bit too much attention for how different it looks. I love the detachable keyboard and the ability to use the pen - though I suspect my handwriting will moderate my use of to scrawl notes!

It's been a "back to" week! Back to blogging; and now back to cycling! Wiped the dust off my cycles, badgered a friend into coming along, and went cycling down past where the Microsoft campus in Hyderabad is coming up. It'll be an interesting locality - what with the Infosys, Wipro, Indian School of Business, International Institute of Information Technology and Hyderabad Central University campuses all within stone's throw! Mustn't forget the golf course coming up across the road almost around the same time the Microsoft campus is expected! I suspect the blogging will be easier to keep up than the cycling though :).

Also got acquainted with the Carry On series... a set of slightly dated, very risque British comedies in the genre of Austin Powers. Carry on up the Khyber is rich with inventive repartee, innuendo and wit, but should be avoided by those with delicate sensibilities!

Our workplace has started Yoga classes in an attempt to bribe people into coming in more often. After being cajoled into showing up once to "give it a try" - I've been hooked - and have been reasonably regular for the last six weeks or so. I've realised how inflexible my body is (read : I'm still working on my padmasana) but it's an effective stress buster (read : valiant attempt to stop balding!).

A Scottish colleague visiting us for a month has been a yogi since 1971 (yours truly wasn't even born then:), and has been giving us a complex by deciding to do impromptu headstands (yes, that's right - not handstands) in the midde of a crowded restaurant after a quick few beers. Most of us were having trouble standing on two feet - and he seemed pretty stable perched on his head. I'll wait a while before trying that...

Busy set of weeks with a bunch of visitors from around the planet trooping into our workplace. Many gallons of beer, several trips to Runway 9 and a bunch of "meetings" that make sure you're in late trying to cope with "real" work.

One of the visitors made the mistake of mentioning he felt left out on Holi, and what was meant to be a nice evening out GoKarting swifty degenerated into a riot of colours and tubs full of water! Pity Holi comes only once a year!

yess!!!! i'm back!
Or so I think! it's been a long hiatus after getting "lazy" about blogging after my vacation over new years. Lets hope I'm back for a while. Sounds exactly like my cycling - when I'm doing it regularly - I can find the time to cycle thrice a week; If I take a break - it can be months (or like now, almost a year) before I get back to it!

Was in Delhi for a day and a half this week. Shalom, a fun place (that's p a c k e d even on a Wednesday) has an interesting story on why soups seem to be the most ordered dish on their menu. Their lack of a liquour license doesn't prevent them from being generous with the spirits... and their concession to staying on the right side of the law is to list on the bills - soup x for beer, soup y for vodka and so on!
